  • Idle Games raises $10 Million for Social Games

    October 18th, 2011 1 comment

Idle Games, the San Francisco, Calif. – based social gaming company, has recently announced the end of a new round of funding which has brought the company the amount of $10 million. According to the filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, it seems that a part of this second round of funding, in amount of $4.5 million, is part of the Idle Games’ last round, which has been announced at the TechCrunch Disrupt 2011.

At the moment, the company specializes in producing games on top of a proprietary engine which is named the “Idle Engine”. This is a social recommendation system which analysis the Facebook profiles of the users and, based on the information they can find there, they suggest specific games to users. Moreover, this type of platform is funny and interesting to use due to the fact that it allows you to interact with your friends and with persons you do not know. This means that the company creates “social context”, such as flicking Mudlings from the world of a gamer to the one of another, stimulating thus the beginning of conversations and of social connections.

The fact is that the services provided by Idle Games are different from those of its competition due to the fact that they really stimulate communication and the process of friends making. Jeffrey Hyman, the Chief Executive at Idle Games, said that this communication platform is a lot larger and more interesting than the one used by Zynga, which only allows people to bring friends they already know into the game world. Unlike Zynga, Idle Games sustain the development of real, new connections between users around the world. But this engine is just one of the parts of the actual communication world Idle Games intends to develop. The other part of this world is related to the fact that, when online, gamers can start conversations with the other persons who are online, announced Hyman.

The first game Idle Games has launched is called Idle Worship and it has been launched at the TechCrunch Disrupt 2011, which took place in San Francisco, previously this year. This social game puts you in the situation where you have to persuade little creatures which are called Mudlings that you are God. In order to achieve this, you can choose to show them miracles, to curse them, to make them love you or fear you. Moreover, you can also take the decision of sending your Mudlings into the world of another player in order to try and persuade his or her people that you are the suitable God for them.

Idle Games functions just like any other social gaming company, meaning that it makes money by selling virtual goods which can be used in the game world. The company has been founded in November 2009 and, up to the moment, has managed to raise the amount of $19 million in funding. Now, the company is developing two new more games which are going to function based on the recommendations sent from Idle Engine.
