Provider of Specialized, High-Performance Polymers Strives to Improve Medical Products

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. The Life Sciences Greenhouse of Central Pennsylvania (LSGPA) announced today an investment of $750,000 in Nittany Polymedics, Inc. (NPI), a spin-out of State College-based Polymics, Inc.

NPI designs, develops, manufactures and distributes high-performance, specialty, polymer-based products that meet the growing need among medical and dental companies for materials with particular characteristics, such as permeability to x-rays, extreme wear resistance, biological compliance and tissue in-growth, or the capacity to withstand repeated sterilization cycles.

“We delight not just in solving customers’ problems,” says CEO Jeffery J. Sheldon, “but also in forging partnerships with customers to bring improved products and supply chain efficiencies to the marketplace.”

NPI’s advanced materials are already in use in a range of orthopaedic devices and dental implants, and are expected to appear in surgical tools that will debut later this year. “From an investment perspective, the company’s technical know-how and sensitivity to customer needs looks like a winning combination. We anticipate this investment will soon bring a positive economic impact to the State College region,” said LSGPA President and CEO, Dr. Mel Billingsley.
