Purkinje Secures $10 Million in Series D Funding
February 28th, 2007 No comments
Purkinje, a leading service and software partner of physicians, announced recently it closed a $10 million Series D round of financing. Purkinje brings new innovations to the healthcare IT market, combining professional services with unified clinical and practice management technology which incorporates context-specific decision support at the point of clinical and financial decision making.
Leading the round were Purkinje Board members John Doerr, noted Kleiner Perkins Caulfield Byers venture capitalist, and Michael Long, former Healtheon CEO. Purkinje, which has raised $27 million to date, will use the new funds to expand professional services, sales, marketing and business development.
“Purkinje understands that any meaningful improvement in our healthcare system has to come through helping physicians within small practices. After all, this is where the majority of the healthcare is delivered and where the greatest impact on cost and quality can be realized,” said John Doerr. “Purkinje is singularly focused on helping doctors to enhance the care they deliver and improve their financial performance via innovative tools and services delivered at an affordable price. I am pleased to have the opportunity to support Purkinje as they partner with doctors in their efforts to make a difference.”
Giving form to this vision, Purkinje also announced today CareSeries (see separate press release), the company’s unified suite of software solutions that facilitate clinical and administrative workflow within busy medical practices. CareSeries is an integrated practice management; EHR/PHR and e-prescribing solution that provides evidence-driven decision support at the point of care to improve patient outcomes, lower costs and capture additional revenue for physicians. Priced to eliminate the cost barrier for small and medium-sized practices, Purkinje’s Web-based, software-as-a-service solutions free physicians from costly software and hardware investments.
“Purkinje is honored and excited to work with such renowned business and healthcare visionaries as John Doerr and Michael Long. This new funding will accelerate Purkinje’s market position and introduce exciting new solutions and professional services for medical groups and IPAs,” said Bryan Dieter, CEO of Purkinje. “Purkinje’s mission is to be the physician’s advocate, to make a meaningful impact on physician and patient lives by providing physicians with affordable technology, decision support, and professional services that enable them to be more efficient and effective.”
“As both a medical group and a physician-owned Medicare Advantage plan, we are always looking for ways to create wins for physicians and patients alike,” said Charles Willey, M.D., CEO of Essence Healthcare, a medical group in St. Louis, Mo. “Our physicians have been using Purkinje’s system for years, and it’s already saved us, our members and their patients over $6 million dollars.”
Purkinje partners with physicians to help them save time, maximize income, and provide optimal care to their patients. The company offers a unified suite of solutions in the areas of practice management, electronic health records, personal health records, and electronic prescribing which incorporate innovative decision support and workflow enhancing tools. Additionally, Purkinje provides a series of professional services to physician practices that further maximize efficiency, cost savings, and income including billing services, transcription, and medication fulfillment. Named in honor of renowned Czech physiologist Jan Evangelista Purkinje, the company’s solutions are relied upon by more than 5,000 physicians in medical groups, community health centers and hospitals. Purkinje has over 350 employees and is based in St. Louis, Mo.
